About The Flourish Collection
"The Flourish Collection" arose during the 30-day painting challenge I did from mid-June to mid-July. I painted one painting every single day for 30 days straight. During the challenge, I experimented with different techniques and mediums. After the second week, I had an inspiring and motivating conversation with two other artists. That's when I decided to adjust my challenge a bit and create a collection out of nine of these daily paintings.
Why is it called The Flourish Collection?
Maybe you know me or have read some of my past blog posts. My fiancé and I went through hard times over the past two years as we experienced multiple miscarriages. It was a very difficult and utterly devastating period. But I found some distraction in painting, and my last series, "The Feminine Beauty Series," came along. Suddenly, my message and voice in my art felt clear and made sense. The core meaning behind my artwork is to never lose hope and know that better days will come. This collection feels like the sequel to the series before, as all of our stories evolve over time.
This is the first time I’m sharing our big news with the internet, but the daily painting challenge had another reason behind it. For almost five years, our spare bedroom was my art studio, and it will now turn into the nursery for our baby boy. <3 This challenge was a beautiful way to end this chapter of my art studio, and I wanted to treasure the time I had left in a way I would remember. After all those sad days during the miscarriages, painting helped me a lot to clear my mind, and I wanted to end it with something I’m proud of. Painting every single day and putting a finished piece up on my website, Monday through Sunday, isn’t easy.
During the challenge, I found myself in a rut. I fell into a pattern of painting just because I had to finish my daily painting to achieve my goal, but I ignored what I really wanted to create. After the inspiring conversation I mentioned earlier, I remembered and recognized why I love to paint and what I want to express with my artwork.
I decided to pick 8-9 pieces and create a collection out of them. Turn them into stunningly beautiful art prints to remember forever. We grow even during the toughest times, and we will achieve things if we are willing to work hard. It is amazing what we are capable of. Pregnancy, to me, is a great example of that.
The word "flourish" was in my mind for such a long time, and I knew one day I would create something that would be called that. When I googled the meaning of flourish, I loved the sentence "Flourish means to grow in a healthy way."
Why Did I Choose These Nine Paintings to Create the Collection?
Before I painted these pieces, I was a little unsatisfied with the paintings I did in the days prior, so I wrote down what exactly it is I liked about my paintings. It came down to these few key points: I love the background to be more loose and abstract, adding scribbles and sketches of the flowers and leaving parts of them untouched. This way, you can see how this painting came to life. You can see every layer I put down and then refine the flowers with rich and buttery oil paint. I pay attention to the different values and the variety of shapes. One thing I also admire so much is brushstrokes. They feel so honest and raw as if you could see the thoughts of the artist.
Even writing about it, I want to leave everything behind and go paint.
Looking at these paintings, I feel like they describe me and the word "flourish" so well.
